BCF Awards Grant to Charlie’s Closet

Charlie’s Closet (CC), a non-profit under the umbrella of Guilford Interfaith Ministries, is a medical equipment clearinghouse that accepts donations of clean, gently used medical equipment and makes the equipment available to shoreline residents.

CC gratefully accepts donations of all kinds of medical equipment from canes to wheelchairs, shower chairs to hospital beds, adult diapers to sterile gauze and everything in between. The CC staff and volunteers check and clean all the donated equipment, which is then made available to anyone requesting it without regard to age, income, or location, for the purchase price of $1.00. This past year, Charlie’s Closet provided 3,475 pieces of equipment to shoreline residents, a 31% increase over the previous year – the estimated retail cost of the equipment distributed last year was over $400,000! Since 2009, CC has partnered with CT Quest for Peace to send shipments of excess equipment and supplies to Nicaragua twice yearly.

In 2013, the Branford Community Foundation awarded Charlie’s Closet a grant in the amount of $2,000.
