| The Rosenthal Garden property on Kirkham Street in Branford was offered to the town for use as affordable housing by Jane Rosenthal and her late husband Dr. Richard Rosenthal. Rosenthal Gardens is an in-town site of just under 2 1/2 acres. The existing residence, a Georgian Manor home, is being converted into five senior housing units. A new building, now under construction, will house twelve additional units. This project is a shining example of historical restoration paired with conscientious development.
Approximately one acre of the property contains a garden known as Twin Pools because of two man-made pools that are part of the design. A small walkway meanders through the garden and over a small bridge. The trees and shrubs are native species and rare in their size. The garden continually excites as hidden gems are uncovered. The Branford Garden Club is organizing efforts to renovate the garden under the direction of landscape architect Larry Appleton. The gardens will be open for use by our town residents.
In 2006, the Branford Community Foundation supported the Branford Garden Club's efforts to revitalize this beautiful property with a $1,000.00 grant.
