A Branford Community Foundation fund may be started by you with a gift made during your lifetime, or with a bequest in your estate. Established in your name or in memory of or in honor of a friend, relative or cause, your fund may be unrestricted or restricted. Because the Foundation is a public charity, you will receive maximum tax benefits of charitable giving and can be assured that every dollar will be used for the benefit of the community. The JAMES BLACKSTONE MEMORIAL LIBRARY embarked on the development of a Strategic Plan in the fall of 2005. The Branford Community Foundation gave the library $1,000 to help with this process. The Board of Trustees of the library approved the plan in March of 2006 and set the course for the library over the next 5 years. The library has already implemented many of the goals set forth in the plan and has a clear idea of how to proceed in the near future.

In 2007, Chief Robert W. Gill retired from the Branford Police Department after serving eight years in that role and as a member of the force since 1964. In honor of his dedication and service, the Branford Community Foundation created a new, five-year scholarship fund in his name, the CHIEF ROBERT W. GILL SCHOLARSHIP FUND. At his retirement dinner in August, BCF President Eunice Lasala presented Chief Gill with a certificate commemorating this most deserved honor.
